Launceston Pathology is a member of the Sonic Healthcare group and has been providing quality pathology services to the Tasmanian community for approximately thirty years.

Launceston Pathology is one of three semi autonomous laboratory divisions operated in Tasmania by Diagnostic Services Pty. Ltd. The other laboratories are North West Pathology and Hobart Pathology.  The services of the three laboratories are integrated under one management structure and to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, the laboratories are mutually supportive for both staffing and specialised testing. Each division however, independently offers a comprehensive range of tests and services.  The three laboratories maintain a seven-day a week, 24-hour service with trained and experienced pathologists and medical scientists available for out of hours emergency testing.

Launceston Pathology is situated at 71 Frederick Street, Launceston and services specialists, general practitioners, private hospitals and nursing homes of the northern region of Tasmania.  At Launceston Pathology, we focus on offering a professional and comprehensive pathology service to our community providing accurate results with fast and reliable turnaround times.

Chief Executive Officer

Dr Lawrie Bott is the Chief Executive Officer of Diagnostic Services Pty Ltd; the parent company of Launceston Pathology. Lawrie took on this role in August 2006, and in this position he covers both administrative and clinical functions. 

 

Lawrie trained as a general pathologist at Concord Hospital in Sydney, and since then has had a long history of involvement in the provision of pathology services to clinicians. Prior to his move to Hobart, he was Chief Executive Officer of Southern.IML Pathology in Wollongong, New South Wales, a position he held since mid-2000. Lawrie was a partner and pathologist at Barratt & Smith Pathology becoming that organisation's Chief Executive Officer in 1995. As a general pathologist, Lawrie has training and experience in all areas of pathology. Apart from his clinical work, he has also had extensive involvement in the development of computer systems to improve the quality of pathology result generation and reporting.
Lawrie has served on many committees for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, including Council from 2000 to 2007. Lawrie was also a Branch Councillor of the NSW Branch of the AMA.

Launceston Pathology has a well established record for providing the highest quality pathology services with unsurpassed commitment to the medical practitioners and northern Tasmanian community.  In his role as CEO, Lawrie continues this proud history.
