Vacutainer Tube Change

VACUTAINER TUBE CHANGE

As mentioned in our last newsletter we are now changing over to new B.D. vacutainers. Our couriers will provide your surgery with new tubes and tube colour chart guides and pick up all the old tube stock, except the existing blue cap sodium citrate tube used for coagulation, as this will remain in use. There are significant colour changes that you need to be aware of:

1. Gold cap tube with gel replaces the white cap tube with gel.
2. Lavender cap tube 4ml [EDTA] replaces the pink cap tube.
3. Lavender cap tube 10ml [EDTA] replaces the red cap tube.

We will continue to use the same blue cap sodium citrate tube [Greiner tube] for coagulation [INR], as BD only manufacture glass sodium citrate tubes. A new tube is being introduced for ESR testing only [black cap tube] and it would be appreciated if when requesting FBC and ESR a 4ml lavender cap tube and a black cap sodium citrate tube are collected. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to call me on 63 343636.
